The Pretender, the first single and first track on the record, sees the band experimenting with the quiet/loud dynamic, a recurring theme throughout the whole 12 songs and is also a recurring success. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>The idea of Spin claiming most of the songs sound the same as previous efforts is flawed when taken into consideration the introduction of piano to the <a href="http://www.foofighters.com/">Foo Fighters</a> sound, resulting in the beautiful 'Home' and also contributing to 'Statues' (which, by the way, sounds nothing like My Hero).</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>The band's recent flirtation with acoustic music from their previous album 'In Your Honour' is evident on here. Featuring one disc rock, one disc acoustic, Grohl takes the best bits from both music worlds into the same song, the best examples include 'But Honestly' and 'Let It Die'.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>To conclude, the accusations of a lack of innovation on this record are unfounded.
