Album Review: 'Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace' = Foo Fighters

I was originally going to wait a bit longer before posting my opinion on this album, but having come across this article I felt compelled to share my thoughts with the rest of the online world.

'Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace' is the sixth studio album from Grohl & Co, in a career that has spanned over 12 years. The Pretender, the first single and first track on the record, sees the band experimenting with the quiet/loud dynamic, a recurring theme throughout the whole 12 songs and is also a recurring success.

The idea of Spin claiming most of the songs sound the same as previous efforts is flawed when taken into consideration the introduction of piano to the Foo Fighters sound, resulting in the beautiful 'Home' and also contributing to 'Statues' (which, by the way, sounds nothing like My Hero).

The band's recent flirtation with acoustic music from their previous album 'In Your Honour' is evident on here. Featuring one disc rock, one disc acoustic, Grohl takes the best bits from both music worlds into the same song, the best examples include 'But Honestly' and 'Let It Die'.

To conclude, the accusations of a lack of innovation on this record are unfounded. Foo Fighters have created an album that can fit every mood, and opened many more musical paths for them to explore in the future, which this writer hopes is a very long one.

With all that taken into consideration, I give this album 5 Sean's out of 5 (suggestions for a different scoring system are very much welcome).

A Little Introduction...

If you've made it this far, congratulations. My name is Sean and this blog is basically going to be all about music, covering bands I'm into and also news about my own band. Since you asked, my band's name is Five Aces Black (hence the title of this page). I'll post reviews of gigs and albums which I feel are worthy of your attention, and anything else that I want to post as I'm in charge and can post whatever I feel like. Keep popping back and I promise to make it worth your while!
